Connecticut new hire reporting
20 days
Report each new or rehired employee to the Connecticut State Directory of New Hires within 20 days of hire date. That matches the federal default.
What to report
Federal law requires every employer to report, for each new hire: the employee's name, address and Social Security number, and the employer's name, address and federal EIN (42 U.S.C. 653a). States may ask for more, such as the hire date or whether health insurance is offered. States use the reports to enforce child support orders and to catch unemployment insurance fraud.
Report online through the state's portal: www.ctnewhires.com.
Employers with workers in more than one state can choose to report all new hires to a single state they operate in, after notifying HHS.
States with deadlines shorter than 20 days: Alabama (7), Georgia (10), Iowa (15), Maine (7), Massachusetts (14), Mississippi (15), Rhode Island (14), Vermont (10), West Virginia (14). Compare every state.
